New Zealand’s summer months, December to March, are the perfect time to charter a luxury yacht to watch the event and/or explore the pristine cruising grounds on offer and fortunately the stunning yacht DOUCE FRANCE, one of the world’s largest luxury sailing catamarans available for charter, is relocating to New Zealand for that period.
Known as “the City of Sails” for its marinas filled with sailing yachts, Auckland is one of only a handful of global venues to have hosted an America’s Cup Match in the past 30 years, joining other iconic ports including Newport, Fremantle, San Diego, Valencia, San Francisco and Bermuda.
Auckland is also the ideal location to commence your luxury charter yacht vacation in New Zealand which includes the Hauraki Gulf all the way north to the Bay of Islands.
Auckland’s wide and picturesque Waitemata Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf, considered ‘the jewel in Auckland’s crown’, offers a huge choice of course options for your luxury yacht charter taking into account the wind and tidal conditions. This spectacular, deep-water harbour provides a myriad of positions for luxury charter sailing and motor yachts to moor as close as possible to the on-water action.
On shore, the Race Village will be situated in the heart of Auckland’s city, spanning the waterfront and its restaurants, cafes, boutiques and galleries where you will enjoy the famed New Zealand hospitality. .
Charter guests on board DOUCE FRANCE will be dazzled by Auckland’s vast smorgasbord of dining options, designer shopping and all the attractions of a global city, as well as its unique scenery and abundance natural wonders such as its pristine coastline, islands, beaches, dive sites, rich variety of flora and fauna, vibrant Maori culture and multitude of cruising itineraries.
Among the amazing destinations while cruising onboard the luxury charter catamaran DOUCE FRANCE in New Zealand should be the island of Waiheke, just a short cruise from Auckland. This beautiful island boasts vineyards and restaurants where you can sample local wines and food, or handcrafted beers at the local brewery.
Further north, Great Barrier Island offers an entirely unique experience for the luxury charter guest. Here, nature is king, native wildlife is abundant and charter guests can enjoy a “free range experience” roaming protected forest hiking trails, beaches and bays. For charter guests who enjoy golf, there’s a serenely-situated course nestled amongst the spectacular natural environment.
Continuing northwards you arrive at one of New Zealand’s most sublime areas, the Bay of Islands, which encompasses subtropical islands scattered between Cape Brett and the Purerua Peninsula, all of them teeming with vibrant sea life.
Whether you’re keen on fishing, diving and kayaking, or just exploring the small villages that line the Bay, charter guests will find this region fascinating and full of heritage and culture. It was here that the Waitangi Treaty was signed in 1840 by representatives of the British Crown and Māori chiefs recognising their ownership of the land.
At 42.2 metres DOUCE FRANCE is the largest schooner sailing catamaran in the world. She has the ability to sail at a constant 22 knots in a 28 knot breeze, and regularly achieves 15 knots in 20 knots of wind. Her twin diesel engines also allow her to silently cruise at up to 12 knots, with a very economical cruise speed of around 10 knots.
However speed is just one element on DOUCE FRANCE ... above all she is a cruising superyacht. Her interior is elegant and simple with a colonial ambience created by the use of mahogany and rosewood furniture on the main deck.
By contrast the staterooms are decorated in pale sycamore and all 6 conveniently convert to either double or twin rooms all with ensuites.
Charter guests have a choice of three dining areas: the spacious cockpit pleasantly shaded by the deckhouse; the more intimate lounge for the cooler evenings. or the aft teak deck for dining under the stars.
The 250-bottle cave à vin of select wines will please the most discerning charter guest and compliment the flavours of cuisine. Unique Douce France tableware from Limoges, enhances the presentation.
With cushioned seating and sunbathing mattresses, the foredeck is a prime setting to relax. Aft access to the water is particularly easy, using the folding stairway.
